East Shore Flex Ride. 26miles @ 13 mph

Albert T Brulo (L), Lori Brulo, Susan Tussey, Howard Ross, Larry Riley and Mike Loomis.

Ride Name:          Golf Road

Start Location:      Boyd’s Big Tree Farm

Climb:                   1,080 ft.

Weather At Start:  37 degrees, overcast, and calm

We had a figurative bumpy start…our scheduled leader got called into work, one of our regular riders cancelled due to a very recent hamstring issue, and the starting temperature was 37 degrees when the weatherman predicted 52 degrees.  But, once we started, we were off and biking.  Nothing like a good bike ride to get things back on track.

At first, I couldn’t figure out where “Ride With GPS” was predicting 1,030 ft. of climb on the route.  Then, as we coasted down the long and windy driveway from the parking lot at Boyd’s, we all quickly figured out where a good bit of that climb would be.  We headed east on Route 443 to Manada Bottom to Ridge Road to Golf Road and back onto Route 443 to head west back for the climb up to Boyd’s parking lot.  Thanks to Ken for planning such a simple route to remember and for saving the biggest climb for the last 0.25 miles!

Everything went well and it was a non-eventful safe ride.  The only minor issue was the recent snowmelt that created puddles at low points along the shoulder and runoff along a few driveways that sometimes encroached into the travel lane.  But, everyone negotiated these real well and most of us came back with a bike stripe on the back of our jackets.  And, the ending temperature of 40 degrees was comfortable even though it wasn't the predicted 52 degrees.

Oddly,  we saw and smelled what seemed like an unusual number of recent animal roadkills consisting of 3 skunks, 2 squirrels and 1 opossum.  And, they were very recent!

Hope to see everyone at Larry’s Saturday Morning Social ride.
