This day was spectacular for a ride and to have a birthday!   Lucky number thirteen riders met at Joe Carr and Keith hooked on at mile seven making fourteen of us.  The ride was a celebration of Marks birthday.  Usually we try to ride the number of years of the birthday person but for Mark we rode his age, then for the remaining riders we each added an extra birthday mile to make his day special.  Can you guess how old he is?    We headed to the fish hatchery along Pine Rd. and we turned onto Dickinson Rd. but Mike and Kelly were so far ahead of the group they missed the turn.  Lou broke off at Stuart Rd. to head back for an appointment.  We looped around on Seavers, Southside and Lebo Rd. before stopping at the hatchery.  The views of the mountains and fields were gorgeous, all lush with various shades of green.  When we arrived at the hatchery Mike and Kelly were there waiting for us.  Sue wasn’t really feeling it today so she broke off to head home.  The rest of us followed Mt. Rock, eventually getting us to the newly paved Springview Rd.  We enjoyed a refreshing zephyr as we rode along and basked in the bright sunshine and the enjoyment of our day.  Emery broke off on Oak School Rd. as we headed into Carlisle and Mike broke off on Claremont Rd.  We stopped at the Sheetz on Rt. 641 and celebrated Mark by singing Happy Birthday and sharing his birthday cake donut. Chris developed a pain in his calf so I slowed the ride down a bit.  This caused most of the group to ride ahead with Tom leading the way – thanks Tom.  Mark, Dave and I stayed with Chris and as we rode along Hickory Rd. we encountered lots of glass in front of many driveways.  We stopped to check our tires and I pulled out two pieces in my front tire.  We started the ride with 13 riders, then had 14 – 13 – 11 – 13 – 12 – 11 – 10 – 4, truly an a-la-carte ride.  We finished by regrouping at Joe Carr and relishing this great WSW ride.
