What a welcome relief! No heat and no humidity, just a cool and breezy typical autumn afternoon for a ride along the beautiful river trail. This was Pam’s first time on the trail and she said she liked it so much that she’s bringing her husband to the trail. Hmmm…sounds like a potential new HBCer.
Did I say breezy? Well there was a little debris on the trail, just a 24" silver maple! Where the Hale is James Baker when you need him?
Overall, we had a very easy downstream ride to Columbia with the wind at our back and a net downhill. We took our scheduled break at the Columbia Crossing River Trails Center where they had a fantastic photo display of the river, river wildlife and river cities. Jim needed to be back early so he headed back before us. He promised to clear the “debris” for our ride back but somehow that didn’t happen. Guess Hale has pretty big shoes to fill.
The return ride was a bit more difficult due to the wind in our faces and the net uphill. But, we kept the exact same 12 mph speed as our first half of the ride. That’s pretty much thanks to Bob for allowing the lazy ones like me to draft him almost the whole way back. By the way, happy birthday to Bob who will be celebrating his birthday tomorrow by biking his age.
No sweep, no problem due to our six pack of experienced riders.
