20th Annual New Year's Day Ride, Memorial Lake to Union Water Works, 22.5 miles @ 10.9 mph, 1540 feet elevation gain, temperature mid 40's to low 50's.

Memorial Lake State Park was very quiet this morning with only a runner or two and a couple dog walkers present until our twenty one cheerful members arrived for the Annual New Year's Day Ride.  Considering it was January, the weather was very pleasant with mild temperatures and partially sunny skies; however, windy conditions made things somewhat challenging.  We welcomed Bonnie, Kathy and Ellis who rode with our group for the first time.

We took mostly rural roads on a twenty two mile loop from Memorial Lake to the Ono Union Water Works area and back.  As is usually the case with a large group, faster and slower riders stretched the group over a wide area, but we made adjustments and everyone completed the ride. There were no remarkable issues other than the consistently strong head, tail and crosswinds.  It's always nice when that many riders complete a ride with no mechanicals or other incidents.

Upon returning to the parking area, a table with table cloth, champagne and light snacks were set up as we toasted to a happy, healthy new year with many miles of safe enjoyable cycling.

Thanks to Hale for his always reliable sweep duties, to Rick for developing the route, and to Rod and Marilyn for getting the ride announcement published.
