The HBC Bike Clinic has been extended to include this coming Saturday, Feb 6, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.  It will be held at the Lemoyne Boro Building at 510 Herman Avenue. This is a make-up date since we experienced a record breaking snowstorm Jan 16th, which caused the cancellation that days bike clinic.

Dr. Michael Jones, from OIP is coming to present information on cycling health and how to help prevent injuries. He will also speak about arthritis and joint discomfort.

Also, don’t forget about the BIG SALE of HBC jerseys, shorts, socks, and Century shirts.  These will be available beginning at 6:30 p.m. and after the meeting.

HBC Cyclists Seminar (The basics on HBC rides and group riding)

HBC General Membership Meeting – Wednesday, January 11th, 2017 – 7:00 pm

The meeting will be held at HACC, Midtown. 1500 N. 3rd Street, Room 202, Harrisburg, PA. Our guest speaker will be Gary Smith from Wilderness Voyageurs presenting "Things to know about Bicycle Touring". Don’t miss this presentation to learn about the different types of bicycle touring and the equipment you need for a successful trip.

 New Location at HACC Midtown Location Chosen for the Jan. 11 and Feb. 8 General Membership Meeting

This new meeting location in the vibrant Midtown Section of Harrisburg offers a convenient, centrally located venue for all HBC members. There is free and safe parking in the HACC lot on Reilly Street, and HACC is graciously allowing us to meet in their building free of charge. The Midtown area is also the center of Harrisburg’s growing bike culture and we hope to see some new, young faces at these meetings.

Underground Bike Shop Preview on Jan. 11 Before the Membership Meeting

Before the meeting, plan to stop and visit the Midtown area’s newest establishment, the Underground Bike Shop.  Owner Ian Morrison is offering new and used bicycles, service and equipment. Many of you know Ian from the Pedal Pusher and Recycle Bicycle. The shop is at 1519 N. 3rd St., very close to HACC Midtown (1500 N. 3rd St.). Ian will be at the shop from 9:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. that day, so be sure to pay him a visit. The shop doesn’t officially open until Feb. 4, with a grand opening planned for the weekend of April 22.

Learn how to maintain and fix your bicycle … FREE … attend one session or all three sessions. No age limit … Youngsters and Seniors are encouraged to come join us. You’ll be better for the experience. Learn from experienced bicyclists the mechanics of fixing a bicycle.

Our 2017 Bicycle Maintenance Clinics are scheduled for three successive Saturdays in January, 12 noon to 3:00pm (Jan. 14, 21, 28) and you do not need to be a bike club member or have any prior experience in bike mechanics and you may attend one session or all three sessions.

Where : Lemoyne Borough Building, 510 Herman Ave., Lemoyne, PA 17043

Cost: $0.00 … that’s right there is no cost … these clinics are free but we may ask for a small donation ($1, $5, whatever you think it is worth) because there are a few supplies and refreshments which will be provided.

What will be taught : The basics in maintaining and fixing a bicycle starting with “How to Fix a Flat Tire” and “What to Carry on Your Bike”. Other topics depend on what our participants tell us they’d like to learn … Gears, Cleaning Your Bike, Helmet Fitting, Riding with Groups, Chain maintenance and potential issues. These are “hands on” clinics … first we’ll teach you how to do something and then you’ll do it yourself and experienced HBC members will assist you too. We’ll also tell you why you might want to consider joining a Bike Club and what HBC offers for the small cost of joining (we’re cheap to join and proud of it!) … events like our annual Finger Lakes Sojourn, Fall Tour, Annual Banquet, Spring Fling.

Pace for Rides:
A: 19+ mph
B+: 17-19
B: 15-17
C+: 13-15
C: 11-13
D+: 9-11
D: 8-10

 

Please note that these are average speeds. If you are new to club rides and aren't sure what pace you can maintain, be conservative with your first ride! Direct all questions, cancellations or updates to  the contact shown on the ride event, or Jeff Hoch at ridecaptain@harrisburgbicycleclub.org

 

Helmets are required on HBC rides.  A trained Ride leader is obligated to collect waiver signatures prior to the ride to be an HBC Sanctioned Ride.

Show and Go Rides are NOT HBC Sanctioned.
