“Harrisburg Beautiful” Bike Tour with Historian Dan Deibler  

Celebrate National Bike Month with a relaxing ride back in time along the riverfront esplanade.  At stops along the way, Architectural historian Dan Deibler, will explain infrastructure improvements that were part of the City Beautiful movement over 100 years ago.  The ride is co-sponsored by Dauphin County Parks and Recreation and Bike Harrisburg, whose goal is to advance a bike-friendly Harrisburg.  Meet at the Sunken Garden on the Capital Area Greenbelt at Front and Verbeke Streets. Ride the Capital Area Greenbelt in a group in case you are directionally impaired or just want company.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate. The speed is casual.  There are a lot of streets to cross so those that ride fast wait at traffic lights for those that need to catch up.  Helmets are required, of course, if you are a first timer.  18+ miles.  The same amount of up hills as downhills since we ride a circle around Harrisburg. Location: Derry St entrance near City Line Diner. Ride will be cancelled on line by noon if weather is unsuitable for riding.

Ride Description:

Join us for a mid winter ride around Harrisburg.  I am hopeful that the route will be clear and the ride can still go as planned.  Stay tuned in the event of a last minute cancellation which will be posted by 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning.  The forecast on Sunday by 1:00 p.m. Is 43 degrees with mostly sunny skies.

As usual, we typically ride a pace avg 10 mph.  No one is left behind.  There are many stops due to road crossings.

Helmets are required on HBC rides.  A trained Ride leader is obligated to collect waiver signatures prior to the ride to be an HBC Sanctioned Ride.

Show and Go Rides are NOT HBC Sanctioned.
