This weeks ride will be a version of last fall's First Annual Tour de Fall Foliage. Obviously, there won't be any fall foliage in July, but the area is also very beautiful in summer. We'll meet at Memorial Lake, Lower Road Entrance, where restroom facilities are available before and after the ride.
Plan to ride about 27 miles of mostly rural roads thru many wooded areas around the outskirts of Fort Indiantown Gap. When we reach Swatara State Park, we will ride down into the park onto the old abandoned highway (old route 72), cross the Waterville Bridge on the Appalachian Trail, and leave the park on Old State Road.
There are some hills on this ride, especially during the first half, but that's part of the beauty and most ascents some with a refreshing descent. None of the hills are killers and we have all done them (or similar ones) in the past. Ride with GPS shows this route has an elevation gain of 1,400 feet and we will probably average about 11-12 miles per hour. There are two very short areas of dirt or hard packed gravel, but each one is less than a mile and road bikes have never had any difficulty on the hard packed areas.
The D Plus ride is starting at the same time and location, so couples can come together and choose separate rides, if desired.
Call or send me an email if you have any questions. In the event of rain, I will send a cancellation email no later than 7:30 Saturday Morning. If the weather is questionable, check your email messages or call me before you leave home.
I think you will like this ride and hope you can make it!
