This Friday we will have an East Shore Flex ride going around Opossum Lake in Cumberland County. Departure will be at 12:30 pm. from the West Pennsboro Township (Plainfield) Park, which is located at 30 Park Road, West Pennsboro Township, PA 17015. This location is just off Rte 641 west of Carlisle.
When turning onto Park Road from Rte 641, proceed straight past the West Pennsboro Fire building and thru the park entrance gate. There is a rest room located in the area.
Our route will take us southeast, crossing Rte 11 and under I-81 before we loop around on Rte 174 and head back north on different roads. Around mile 16 we will enjoy a creekside ride for a few miles before heading uphill towards Opossum Lake.
This clockwise route is the slightly easier way to go around Opossum Lake. Total climb for our 28 mile route is shown as 1,019 ft with a maximum grade of 4.8% on a short hill and a couple of other 4% grades on slightly longer climbs. Our pace will be within the C range of 12 to 13 mph, and no rider will be dropped.
A link to the planned route is attached.
Weather forecast calls for temps above 45 deg F with 5 to 8 mph winds and mostly sunny conditions. That's pretty good riding weather for January!

For clarification, we are aware that this ride is being announced as an East Shore Flex ride despite the fact that it takes place on the West Shore and there is now a separate West Shore Flex ride designation. The HBC Ops Committee will be working through the protocols of the various Flex rides in the near future. Thanks.
