Saturday Morning Social

Sat. 20 Jan, 2018 9:30 am - 9:30 am
Ride Description:

Meet this week at Fort Hunter on the east side (barn side) of Front Street and plan to ride about 29 miles at about 12 mph with one fairly long hill on Piketown Road. The rest of the ride has the usual up and down rollers of Dauphin County.

I drove many of the roads of Dauphin and Lebanon County Friday afternoon and found the conditions in Dauphin County a little better than those in Lebanon.  Nevertheless, most secondary roads have at least some areas of snow, ice, slush or water, so we will keep this ride mostly on the main roads by heading from Fort Hunter straight up Linglestown Road to Koon's Park to Piketown Road.  After climbing the long hill on Piketown, (if no one kills me for leading the group up this long hill), we will head down the mountain on Appleby to Rt. 443 and back to Fort Hunter.  Total distance is 28.4 miles with an elevation gain of 1340 feet.

NOTE THE 9:30 START TIME.  The weather is suppose to be nice for mid January and by starting at 9:30 most of the ice from the overnight refreeze should be melted; and it should be a little warmer.  If necessary, I will send a cancellation email to our distribution list no later than 8:00 am Saturday morning.  If the weather is questionable, check your emails, call, text, or email me before you leave home.

I hope you can make it!
