Rolling Terrain and Challenging HillsRide Description:
The ride will include the rolling terrain and challenging hills of eastern Dauphin and western Lebanon counties. There will be infrequent stops and any that are necessary. Riders should be capable of sustained effort for two to three hours or more.
This week we’ll meet at the Conewago Trailhead on PA Route 230 between Middletown and Elizabethtown. This is the same starting point as the C ride on Saturday. Like the C, we will also meet at 8:30 a.m.
The parking area where we will meet is an old abandoned Getty Gas Station adjacent to the trail parking area, used for overflow parking. To get there, take the TOLL HOUSE ROAD Exit from Rt. 283 EAST. Take Rt. 230 EAST toward ELIZABETHTOWN. The gas station is on the left, just past HOFFER ROAD and the CONEWAGO CREEK.
The ride will follow a portion of the Cancer Research Century Route by heading over to 743, where we will pick up the Route into E-town. We will go up and out of E-town and on to Middletown. There we’ll leave the route and take Colebrook Road into Lawn and on to Colebrook. We’ll circle back taking Elizabethtown Rd./ Mt. Gretna Rd/Rt. 241, which parallels much of the Trail, and end up back on Rt. 230.
The total distance will be approximately 36 miles, with an elevation gain of roughly 1,600 feet, per Ride with GPS. Our pace will average in the 14-15 mph range.
In the event of poor riding conditions, I will send a cancellation notice by 7:30 a.m.
Hope to see you there!
