Saturday Morning D+

Sat. 2 Jun, 2018 9:00 am
Ride Description:

The weather forecast for this Saturday isn't looking very good at this point, but let's hope for the best and schedule this ride anyway. The Lower Road Lot at Memorial Lake State Park will be our 9:00am starting point for this Saturday's D Plus ride. Restrooms are available at the park. Plan on riding from the park east through the Fort Indiantown Gap area to Swatara State Park. After a short break, we'll return to our starting location. The route has a few minor hills, all of which we've climbed before. Total distance will be approximately 17 miles, or a couple more if we decide to ride around the lake at ride end. Speed will be 9-11mph, depending on the group. No one gets dropped and we'll take breaks as necessary. If you have any questions or concerns, please call, 717-865-5707, or email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Hope to see you Saturday morning. In the event of inclement weather causing a ride cancellation, notification will be sent out by 8:00am.

If you don't want to make the trip to Lebanon county for this ride, check out "Celebrate the Greenbelt" weekend at www.bikeharrisburg.org. There are plenty of bike rides and related activities throughout the weekend.

Saturday Morning Social

Sat. 2 Jun, 2018 9:00 am
Ride Description:

Name:   Tour 'De Farms

Stats:     29 miles (1,070 ft.)

Speed:  11-13 mph

Start Location:  Palmyra Borough Building

At 9:00 AM we’ll be starting at the Palmyra Borough Building located in Palmyra just north of the square at 325 South Railroad Street.

This is one of our favorite rides along the scenic farmlands of Lebanon County.  With all of the recent rains and the time of year, everything should be lush and green with lots of flowers popping.

We’ll take our scheduled break around mile 16 at the Colebrook trailhead for the Conewago Trail where restroom facilities are available.  We will not be riding on the trail.  This ride only has 1,070 ft. of climb which is relatively low for 29 miles in the local area.  Most of the climb will come on 2 hills…1 at Bachmanville and 1 at South Mt. Pleasant Road.  Both climbs will be rewarded with a nice downhill, especially South Mt. Pleasant Road.

The current weather forecast calls for a chance of showers and thunderstorms.  I’ll cancel by 8:00 AM on Saturday in the event of poor riding weather.

The D+ group will be starting at a different location.

Event Description:

“I miss cycling and getting fresh air.”

This is what we hear from seniors living in communities like Bethany Village. Many residents no longer have the physical ability to bike around town, but they still miss the freeing feeling. That is the mission behind Cycling Without Age:  We want to give seniors the opportunity to feel the wind rush through their hair.

All Bethany Village employees, residents, family members, and community members are invited to join us as volunteer pilots! The training kickoff for this year’s cycling program is Wednesday, June 6, at 11:30 AM and again at 5:30 PM in the West Education Room.

All new volunteer pilots must undergo a safety training and prove their competence on the rickshaw. This training will take approximately 1 hour. Previously trained pilots should also plan to attend this kickoff meeting for the first 30 minutes to meet Erin Emenheiser, rickshaw coordinator, and to review cycling procedures.

RSVP to Erin at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. If the date above is not available for you, please contact Erin to set up an alternate training time.

In the meantime, check out Cycling Without Age’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to see heartwarming stories of seniors reconnecting with the world around them. Spread the joy!

Saturday Morning D+

Sat. 9 Jun, 2018 9:00 am
Ride Description:

For this Saturday's ride, we're looking to get the casual or first time riders out.  If you haven't had your bike out for awhile, this is your ride. If you've never ridden in a group or on the road, this is your ride. If you hate hills, this is your ride.

At 9am this Saturday, we'll be doing two circuits from the Lower Road Lot at Memorial Lake State Park, 18 Boundary Rd, Grantville, Pa. 17028. Restrooms are available. Our first circuit will be about 8 miles and run from Memorial Lake west on Rt443 and back on very rural roads. The terrain is as flat as it gets in south-central Pa. If you're up to it, we'll do a second circuit covering a similar route, though you can end your ride after the first 8 miles.  Total distance will be about 15 miles. The speed will be group dictated, probably around 10mph, and no one will get dropped.  We'll take as many breaks along the way as necessary.

So, pump up your bike tires, get your helmet dusted off, grab a water bottle, and show up for a good riding experience. Riding on these roadways in the countryside beats pedaling that stationary bike in your basement. Hope to see you out with us Saturday!

If you have any questions or concerns, please call me at 717-865-5707, or email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. In the event of inclement weather causing a ride cancellation, notification will be sent out by 8:00am

Ride Description:

For those of you that aren't making the trek to the Fingerlakes or trying to get the household chores done, please come out and join us for a great ride to Lake Strauss.  This is always a popular ride.

We will be starting from the Parking Lot at the Lower Road entrance to Memorial Lake.  This is a beautiful ride with lots great scenery and rolling terrain.  There are a couple small hills on the route, but we have all done them before and lived to ride another day.

The weather looks questionable for Saturday, so I will send a cancellation notice by 8:00 if needed.

See You Saturday,

Event Description:

American Cancer Society event, the Pennsylvania Hope Ride, a noncompetitive, two-day, bicycle event starting and finishing at the Society’s Hope Lodge in Hershey with an over-night stay at Kutztown University.

It will be held this year on June 23 & 24, 2018.

The American Cancer Society’s PA Hope Ride provides you, your company/organization/family the opportunity to join us as we save lives and create a world with less cancer. One example of helping people get well is assisting with access to care by providing lodging through our nationwide Hope Lodge program. This ride helps to provide support for the Hope Lodges and other critical program of the American Cancer Society.

Six years ago, I had to opportunity to stay at a Hope Lodge in Cleveland, for six weeks, as my sister's caregiver as she underwent a stem-cell transplant.  It provided us with a wonderful and supportive place to stay without the financial worries of staying in a city away from home.

When the opportunity to organize, this ride was given to me, I was immediately interested not only as a cyclist myself, but it is another way I can give back to an amazing organization that gave my family so much.

Won't you join me to support the Hope Lodges and other critical programs of the American Cancer Society?

WHAT YOU GET...

· Kick Off Dinner - Friday, June 22

· PA Hope Ride T-shirt
