Saturday Morning C

Sat. 1 Apr, 2017 9:00 am
Ride Description:

Meet this week at the East Hanover Township Community Park, 8848 Jonestown Road, Grantville, PA 17028.  The parking lot is behind the Municipal Building with the entrance on Manada Gap Road.  We will take one of our familiar Saturday morning routes on roads south of Route 22, but there will be some variation to the regular route.  Plan to ride about 27 miles at 11-12 mph. We will pass the Pine Road bald eagles' nest where they are sitting on eggs and may be fortunate enough to see an eagle.  Terrain is the typical Lebanon County countryside with one significant hill at the 10 mile mark.  We have all climbed it before and it isn't really that difficult.  We will then take a short break at Memorial Lake at the 17 mile mark before returning to the starting location. In addition to the restrooms at Memorial Lake, there is also a newly discovered port-o-potty hidden in the pine trees behind the tennis courts at our starting/ending location.

Not quite ready for 25 plus miles?  The Saturday Morning D Plus ride is starting at the same time from the same location and will ride about 20 miles at a slightly slower pace and in a different direction.  Riders are welcome to join the ride of their choice!  Hope to see everyone Saturday morning. No April Fools jokes allowed!

Saturday Morning C

Sat. 8 Apr, 2017 9:00 am
Ride Description:

Unfortunately, as I look out the window it's raining cats and dogs.  Also, portions of the NW Lancaster River Trail have been under water this week with a river stage of about 9 ft at Harrisburg and a 13 ft crest predicted for Saturday.  This means we are moving our ride this Saturday from the NW Lancaster River Trail to the Conewago Trail.  We'll be sure to reschedule the NW Lancaster River Trail for better conditions so we can fully appreciate the ride.

We'll meet at the western-most trailhead of the Conewago Trail but we'll park in the adjacent abandoned Getty Mart parking lot where we have parked the last few years.  For those who haven't previously joined us on this ride, just enter "Conewago Trail North Market Street" in your Google Maps and you'll easily find it.  It's generally located just south of Saturday's Market along Route 230.

We'll ride about 26 miles with about the first half on hard roads and the last half on hard packed trail.  The trail is suitable for both road and hybrid bikes.  A mountain bike would likely be too disadvantageous for the first half of the ride.  The trail ride portion is all slightly downhill.  We'll be averaging 11-13 mph with no one left behind....kinda sounds like Seal Team 6.  This ride is also relatively flat with one short steep climb near the beginning.

I'll send an email by 7:30 AM on Saturday if we need to cancel because of unsuitable weather.

The D+ ride will not be starting at the same location.

Feel free to text/call me at 717-805-1251 or email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you have any questions.

Speed will be 9-11mph, depending on the group. No one gets dropped and we'll take breaks as necessary. If you have any questions or concerns, please call, 717-865-5707, or email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Saturday Morning C

Sat. 15 Apr, 2017 9:00 am
Ride Description:

Meet this week at Memorial Lake, Middle Road Entrance,   where there are restrooms available before and after the ride.  Plan to ride about 23 miles at 11-12 mph over the rolling hills of beautiful Lebanon County. No major hills, just many ups and downs, but for every uphill, there is a corresponding downhill.

We are going to ride a route that Rick Radwanski developed last year.  We rode it once on a very windy day and everyone agreed it was a great route that should be repeated when it isn't as windy. It is mostly country roads thru farmlands and wooded areas.  We will pass several horse and chicken farms, as well as many conventional farms with some interesting barns.

The weather forecast looks great, but if things change, I will send an email cancellation no later than 8:00 am Saturday morning. If the weather is questionable, check your emails or call me before you leave home. Hope you can make it!

Let's go for a ride on the NW Lancaster River Trail to see the long row of cherry trees in bloom along Front Street in Marietta. We might see some eagles nesting along the way, too.

Approx. 22 miles at about 10-11 mph.

This trail is almost all paved but there are two short sections of dirt.

Start: 10:30 at the Bainbridge Trailhead. Ride from there to Columbia and back, stopping for lunch at McCleary's Public House.  http://www.mcclearyspub.com

I'll cancel by 8:30 a.m. if necessary.

Take Route 441 to Bainbridge and look for the trail sign to direct you to the trailhead. Please note that to the north of Marietta, there is another trailhead sign near Falmouth, but that section of the trail is not complete and there is no parking. There is a port-a-pot at the Bainbridge trailhead and others along the way.

Saturday Morning C

Sat. 29 Apr, 2017 9:00 am
Ride Description:

We'll meet this week at the Palmyra Borough Municipal Center, 325 South Railroad Street, Palmyra, PA 17078.  This ride will be the Lebanon Valley Bicycle Club's Tour de Farms and is one of our east shore favorites.  Plan to ride about 29 miles of rolling terrain at 11-12 mph as we weave in and out of the scenic farmlands of Dauphin and Lebanon Counties.  There is one significant hill at the half way point, but it isn't too bad and we will regroup at the top before continuing.  Then, the second half of the ride is mostly flat.

If you have been waiting for a warm day to get your bike out, this might be it.  The weather is supposed to be nice and we should be finished around 11:30 am.

In the event of rain, I will send a cancellation email no later than 8:00 Saturday morning.  If the weather is questionable, check your email messages or call or text me before you leave home.

If anyone has questions or needs better directions, send me an email or call or text at contact information below.  Hope to see you there!

Note: This week the D Plus Ride is not starting from the same location as the C Ride.  If you are interested in that ride, check the D Plus email announcement or read about it on the website under Upcoming Rides.  Everyone is welcome to join the ride of their choice!
