Saturday Morning C

Sat. 2 Sep, 2017 8:30 am
Ride Description:

Name:   Memorial Lake via Harpers Tavern & Ono

Stats:    26 mi and 1,225 ft. climb

Speed:  11-13 mph

Start Location:  East Hanover Township Municipal Building

We’ll be starting at the East Hanover Township Park which is located behind the East Hanover Township Municipal Building at 8:30 AM where bathroom facilities are available.  We’ll take a scheduled break around mile 17 at Memorial Lake with additional unscheduled breaks.  I anticipate that we’ll finish pretty close to 12 mph.  No one will be left behind.

We’ll take mostly country roads as we ride past Hollywood Casino, through Harpers Tavern, through Ono and then to Memorial Lake for our scheduled break.  Then, we’ll take SR 443 back to East Hanover.  There will be about 1,225 ft. of climb with the hills being pretty much evenly spread out along the entire route…and no major hills.  The ride along SR 443 is a real nice finish to the ride.

For directions, you can enter “East Hanover Municipal Building” in Google Maps and it'll get you to the start location.  It is located at the intersection of Jonestown Road and Manada Gap Road.

The D+ group will be starting out of the East Hanover Park so you can easily choose between both rides.

I'll cancel by 7:30 AM Saturday via email in the event of poor riding weather.

Hope to see you there!

Saturday Morning C

Sat. 9 Sep, 2017 8:30 am
Ride Description:

Meet this week at Memorial Lake, Lower Road Entrance, Grantville, PA, and plan to ride about 29 miles thru the farmlands of rural Lebanon County.  This is one of Rick Radwanski's routes that we haven't ridden since  mid January of this year. There are no killer hills, but as with most of Lebanon County, there are several small to medium ones. Pace will be about 12 mph. This is a country ride, but we will also pass thru the small towns of Ono, Jonestown, and Fredericksburg.

There are restroom facilities available at the Lower Road parking area and we will take a break at the library in Fredericksburg where there are also restrooms available.

In the event of rain, I will send a cancellation email message to our ride distribution list no later than 7:00 am Saturday morning. If the weather is questionable, check your emails, call, or text me before you leave home.

I think you will like this ride and hope you can make it!

Progressive Dinner by Bike with a side of Glow to Go!

Sat. 9 Sep, 2017 3:00 pm

A la Car-less:   A Progressive Dinner by Bicycle (with a side of Glow to Go!)

6uA2Rrmpjd3SdmqSLW2MO9klvGM-Kk-6S21JLGoH

Come join Amy Addams and friends on Saturday evening, September 9, in Elizabethtown for a progressive dinner by bicycle.    We will take a tour of Elizabethtown and check out the local scenery in  our little Lancaster County town.  This is a fundraiser for the Johns Hopkins Pancreatic Cancer Research Center to help find better treatments and a cure for pancreatic cancer, one of the cancers with the poorest survival rates today.    (Amy's brother-in-law was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this spring and Amy is raising money to help find a cure.)  The ride will be that of a Sunday social pace (D pace, 8 - 10 miles an hour) and will stop at several places in Elizabethtown for the different courses.    Total distance will be between 10 and 12 miles.  The menu will be an Italian theme and will include appetizer, soup, salad, aperitif, main course and dessert.   (Word on the street is that the dessert may not be Italian; rumor has it that Amy is making chocolate chip cookies and other goodies for the dessert table!)

All riders are expected to wear a helmet, bring a tail light, have a bicycle in good working condition, be able to keep up with the pace, be comfortable riding in a group, and practice safe bicycle riding skills.    While children are welcome, this is not a ride for little ones on training wheels and those who cannot keep up with the pace and be comfortable riding in a large group.   Consent forms/waivers will be completed at check-in on Saturday, September 9.   Please arrive early to allow time to complete the paperwork and get checked in.

A limited number of glow items to decorate your bike will be available for purchase at registration.

In the event of rain, the dinner will be hosted at the church.

RSVP:  By Wednesday, September 6, to Amy Addams via This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the number of people attending, your name, and your telephone number.    Or you may choose to text Amy at (717) 371-6105 with the same information.    RSVP by the date is requested for food planning purposes.

Starting/Ending Location:  Christ Church United Church of Christ, 247 S. Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022

Check-in and registration:   Begins at 3:00 pm

Ride start time:  Promptly at 4:00 pm

Cost:   By RSVP date:  $25 per person (14 and over); children under 14:  $10.

(Late registration or day of:   $30 per person for adults; children 14 and under $10.)

Payment will be collected at registration.

Checks payable to:  Johns Hopkins University (please put Run4Rick in your memo line)

Saturday Morning C

Sat. 16 Sep, 2017 8:30 am
Ride Description:

Name:   Memorial Lake Via Harpers Tavern & Ono

Stats:    28 mi and 1,235 ft. climb

Speed:  11-13 mph

Start Location:  East Hanover Township Park

We’ll be starting at the East Hanover Township Park which is located behind the East Hanover Township Municipal Building at 8:30 AM where bathroom facilities are available.  We’ll take a scheduled break around mile 17 at Memorial Lake with additional unscheduled breaks.  No one will be left behind.

If the ride name sounds familiar, it’s the “Cold Rainy Ride” that some of us did a few weeks ago.  Even though it wasn’t raining at the start, the bikers with more smarts either didn’t show for the ride or left when we said the ride will be rainy and cold.  So, we’ll give this a try again and keep our fingers crossed for better weather.

We’ll take mostly country roads as we head east and pass by Harpers Tavern to Ono where we’ll make a left and head to Memorial Lake.  Then, we’ll take Route 443 to Manada Bottom Road and back to East Hanover Township Park.  This is a typical ride for the area with about 1,235 ft. of climb.

For directions, you can enter “East Hanover Municipal Building” in Google Maps and it'll get you to the Park.  It is located at the intersection of Jonestown Road and Manada Gap Road.

The D+ group will be starting at a different location.

I'll cancel by 7:30 AM Saturday via email in the event of poor riding weather.

Ride Description:

We'll start Saturday morning at 8:30am from Memorial Lake State Park, the Lower Road parking area. Restrooms are available at the park. Plan on riding from the park around Memorial Lake, west to Levitz Park, then back east on a few rural roads to our starting point at Memorial Lake. Distance for this circuit will be about 10 miles. No one gets dropped and we'll take breaks as necessary. If you have any questions or concerns, please call, 717-865-5707, or email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. Saturday Morning C

Sat. 23 Sep, 2017 8:30 am
Ride Description:

Name:  Memorial Lake to Steelstown Loop

Stats:   26.6 miles with 1315 ft. climb

Speed:  11-13 mph

Start Location: Memorial Lake State Park, Lower Road Entrance, Grantville, PA

Let's meet this week at Memorial Lake, Lower Road Entrance, and plan to ride about 26.5 miles of rolling terrain at 11-13 mph.  Restrooms are available at the park for the start and finish, but nothing (other than wooded areas) during the ride.  This is a country ride on mostly rural roads.  There are two or three hills, but no one has had any difficulty with them in the past and we will regroup at the top.  We will take a snack/drink break at the church parking lot in Steelstown and any other breaks that are necessary.  We should be finished around 11:30-11:45 am.

The D Plus ride is starting at the same time from the same location for anyone looking for a little shorter/slower ride.

If the weather isn't suitable for cycling, I will send an email cancellation to those on the distribution list no later that 7:00 Saturday morning.  If the weather is questionable, check your emails, text or call me before you leave home.

Hope you can make it!

Thompsontown 34.3 miles 1,679 ft. climbing but nothing too steep or too long and this is an easy-pace 10/11 mph ave. pace and no one is left behind.  Good preparation for the upcoming Apple Butter Boil rides in October but we avoid the really steep hills (and cold since the forecast is for continued 70-80 through next week).

Start:  Haldeman Park (18 E. Main St., Thompsontown) just behind the Corner Deli (40 E. Main St.) where there are restrooms available in the park.  About 40 miles North of Harrisburg a mile or so off Rt. 322/22.

Ride Description:

Name:  Memorial Lake to Lake Strauss

Stats:   About 27 miles with 1300 ft climb

Speed:  12-13 mph

Start Location:  Lower Road Entrance of Memorial Lake, Grantville, PA 17028

We'll start this week from Memorial Lake, Lower Road Entrance, and ride thru Monroe Valley to Lake Strauss and back.  Expect a few small to medium size hills, but nothing too difficult.  Restroom facilities are available at the start and end location, as well as at a couple places along the route.  We'll take a scheduled break about half way at Lake Strauss and others, if needed.  I frequently hear favorable comments about this route and think you will enjoy it.

If the weather isn't suitable for cycling, I will send a cancellation email message to the distribution list no later than 7:00 am Saturday morning.  If the weather is questionable, check your email messages, call, or text me before you leave home.

Hope to see you there!
