Saturday Morning C

Sat. 13 Jan, 2018 9:00 am
Ride Description:

Join us this week (weather permitting) at Memorial Lake State Park, Middle Road Entrance, and plan to ride 20-25 miles over and thru the rolling terrain of Lebanon County. Actual mileage will be determined by weather conditions. There is a heated restroom available at the start/end location.

There is no real destination, just a 20-25 mile loop out to the Union Water Works area of Ono and back.  It is on mostly rural, country roads thru farmlands and wooded areas. We usually see some wildlife, as well as many farm animals.  There is only on fairly steep hill on Black’s Bridge Road, but no one has had any real difficulty with it in the past.  We did this ride a few times last year and everyone seemed to enjoy it. It was also scheduled in mid December, but cancelled because of the weather.

The weather Saturday morning is again questionable with a possible wintry mix of snow flurries and/or rain. (Boo Hiss) If conditions aren’t suitable for cycling, I will send a cancellation email to the distribution list no later than 7:30 Saturday morning. If the weather is questionable, check your emails, call, or text me before you leave home.

I think you will enjoy this ride and hope you can make it.

If you are interested in a little shorter ride, the D Plus group is starting at the same time and location. Check that email distribution list or the club website for those details.

CANCELLED East Shore Flex

Mon. 15 Jan, 2018 12:30 pm
Ride Description:

The roads are clear, so...there will be an East Shore Flex ride on Monday January 15th at 12:30pm.

We will meet at the Greenbelt trail head parking lot behind City Line Diner on Derry St.  Street address of the diner is 3302 Derry St, Harrisburg, PA 17111

This will be a "Greenbelt Plus" ride where we will cover the 20 mile distance of the Greenbelt and perhaps a few more miles depending on group preference. We will stick to the paved sections of the Greenbelt and bypass the gravel area behind the PennDot building.

Total distance will be between 20 and 25 miles and our pace will be around 12 mph.  For these winter rides we are not looking to maximize pace, just get in some nice base miles for general fitness, and no rider will be dropped.

Temps are expected to be in the mid 20's with partly sunny skies and 7mph winds.  If you haven't ridden in these conditions yet, we strongly recommend you bring out the warmest gear you have.  We will stick together as a group and take a restroom break somewhere around the midway point at City Island.

My contact information is attached.

Saturday Morning Social

Sat. 20 Jan, 2018 9:30 am
Ride Description:

Meet this week at Fort Hunter on the east side (barn side) of Front Street and plan to ride about 29 miles at about 12 mph with one fairly long hill on Piketown Road. The rest of the ride has the usual up and down rollers of Dauphin County.

I drove many of the roads of Dauphin and Lebanon County Friday afternoon and found the conditions in Dauphin County a little better than those in Lebanon.  Nevertheless, most secondary roads have at least some areas of snow, ice, slush or water, so we will keep this ride mostly on the main roads by heading from Fort Hunter straight up Linglestown Road to Koon's Park to Piketown Road.  After climbing the long hill on Piketown, (if no one kills me for leading the group up this long hill), we will head down the mountain on Appleby to Rt. 443 and back to Fort Hunter.  Total distance is 28.4 miles with an elevation gain of 1340 feet.

NOTE THE 9:30 START TIME.  The weather is suppose to be nice for mid January and by starting at 9:30 most of the ice from the overnight refreeze should be melted; and it should be a little warmer.  If necessary, I will send a cancellation email to our distribution list no later than 8:00 am Saturday morning.  If the weather is questionable, check your emails, call, text, or email me before you leave home.

I hope you can make it!

Event Description:

Ooops, I may have misused this posting method as I am not promoting a ride. I am gathering a group of HBC members who  want to attend an indoor soccer match at the New Holland Arena of the Farm Show, Friday, January 26, 2018. Game time is 7:35 pm. I expect to purchase $20.00 tickets. Wear HBC paraphenialia. The the home team is the Harrisburg Heat, now in its second year of new ownership, with a playoff berth under the Heat's belt last year.  The Heat play the Baltimofre Blast, their arch rivals. There are enough games left for the Heat to repeat that effort. Check out www.harrisburgheat.com for more information. The games are streamed through Youtube so you can watch some away games between now and January 26.  I already have two folks committed to the gathering. RSVP by Friday, January 19, 2018.  Felix Thau, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
