Pedal with a congenial group at an easy pace, exploring the city and riverside towns before traffic builds. Some folks end the ride with breakfast at Roxy's, N. 3rd corner of North Street.

Based upon the Saturday morning weather forecast, this may be a very optimistically posted ride announcement. If we bypass the snow, sleet, rain, hurricane, pestilence, locusts, etc, here's our planned Saturday Morning D Plus Ride. We'll start Saturday morning at 9:00am from the Lower Road Lot (note the start location change) at Memorial Lake State Park, 18 Boundary Road, Grantville, PA. 17028. Restrooms are available at the park. Plan on riding from the park south, then southeast through the Ono and Union Waterworks areas on rural roads before heading back to our starting point at Memorial Lake. This route has a few minor hills to traverse. Total distance will be approximately 18 miles. Speed will ideally be around the 10mph mark, depending on the group. No one gets dropped and we'll take breaks as necessary. If you have any questions or concerns, please call, 717-865-5707, or email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Hope to see you Saturday morning. With the probability of inclement weather causing a ride cancellation, notification will be sent out by 8:00am.

We’ll meet this week at Memorial Lake, LOWER ROAD ENTRANCE, and ride about 25 miles of rolling terrain to the small village of Steelstown. There are a few hills on this route, but nothing too difficult and we will take them slowly. Average speed will be in the 12 mph range. Park personnel have requested we use the Lower Road Entrance because of other activities at the Middle Road. If the restrooms at the Lower Road aren’t yet open, we can easily ride over to the Middle Road before or as we start our ride.
In the event of inclement weather, I will send a cancellation notice to the Saturday Morning Social email distribution list and delete the ride from the website calendar no later than 8:00 Saturday morning. If the weather is questionable, check your emails, call or text me before you leave home.
This is always a nice ride and I hope you can make it.
The D Plus Ride is starting at the same time and place, but going to a different destination at a little shorter, slower pace. Refer to that ride’s email announcement or the club website for details.

Owen's Sunday Sociable riders are an intrepid crew, but here's what's expected for Sunday April 8: predicted 7 am temperature is 30 degrees, with 8 mph wind from the north, making the RealFeel 23.
Leader Marc Farrell and Coordinator Nancy Sherer decided that caution may be the better part of valor in this situation: the scheduled ride is cancelled.
If you have winter riding gear and are eager to get up and out despite the February scenario, you are welcome to "Show & Go" on your own, which would be an unofficial non-club ride. And/or, you may want to join the Sociable folks for breakfast at Roxy's then ride from there later: 10 am temp will be about 37, RealFeel 34.
Next week, Sunday April 15, John Humphries will lead, so come join us for the second Sociable of the season.

Spring riding weather may finally be here Saturday! Diane Riley has volunteered to co-lead the Saturday Morning D+ ride with me on the Harrisburg Greenbelt. We welcome all to come out on what should be a beautiful spring day. This would be a wonderful ride to invite someone new to join us !
We will start the ride at 9:00 am at the Benjamin Olewine Nature Center at Wildwood Park, north of Harrisburg. Street address is 100 Wildwood Way, Harrisburg, PA 17110. If you have not been to this location, best access is via the Cameron Street exit off I-81. Turn right (west) on Wildwood Park Drive and go past the entrance to HACC, at which point the road curves to the right and becomes Industrial Rd. Wildwood Way is just under the I-81 bridge overpass. Turn right into Wildwood Way and park in the lot along the right side.
Plan on touring the Harrisburg Greenbelt, on paved, gravel, and trail roadways. The route includes a few hills, none of which are extreme. A hybrid bike would probably be best suited for this route, however road bikes shouldn't have any problems. Total distance will be approximately 20-22 miles. Speed will be 9-10mph, depending on the group. No one gets dropped and we'll take breaks as necessary along the route. Restrooms are available at several locations. If you have any questions or concerns, please call, 717-865-5707, or email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. You can also contact Diane Riley at 717-576-0003 or email her at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Hope to see you Saturday morning. In the event of inclement weather causing a ride cancellation, notification will be sent out by 8:00am.

It’s time for a nice ride in the country! We will take advantage of the beautiful weather that is forecast for Saturday to do a ride from Colebrook to Mt. Gretna and back.
Our departure will be at 9:00 a.m. from the abandoned GettyMart parking lot along Rte 230 just northwest of Elizabethtown. If you have not been to this location, it is right next door to the Conewago Recreation Trail parking lot, which has the street address 2385 N Market St, Elizabethtown, PA 17022
Please park in the lot that is in front of the abandoned GettyMart; do not park in the Recreation Trail parking lot.
The route I have planned will be entirely on paved roads; we will not be riding on the trail.
Our route will take us northeast on back roads through Lawn and Colebrook, with a restroom stop at mile 11 and a lap around the Mt. Gretna lake before a break. Our return route will follow Rte 241 into Elizabethtown and finish with an exciting 1 mile downhill run back to the parking lot.
Ride with GPS shows the distance as 27 miles with elevation climb of 930 ft. If you would like more info on the route, see the attached link.
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/25838812
Our speed will be the normal C pace for the Saturday Social ride, and no rider will be left behind. This ride typically averages around 12 mph. Faster riders are expected to stay with the speed of the pack; slower riders are expected to be able to average at least 11 mph.
If you have questions please contact me at 717-982-1706 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
In the event of a need to cancel I will send a notice out by 8am Saturday.

Surely your tax returns are prepped and filed, so come out for a nice bike ride. Pedal with a congenial group at an easy pace, exploring the city and riverside towns before traffic builds. Some folks end the ride with breakfast at Roxy's, N. 3rd corner of North Street.
Sign up online for STRAVA and join the Harrisburg Bicycle Club "Briarcresters". The "Briarcresters" are cyclists who ride with the Harrisburg Bicycle Club and whose rides start and finish at the Briarcrest Shopping Center in Hershey, PA. Rides are April to September on Monday or Thursday at 6 pm for the A (19+mph), B (15-19 mph), C (11-15 mph) and D (8-11 mph) level cyclists. The A group also ride on Tuesdays at 5:30 pm and the B+ (17-19 mph) riders at 5:30 on Wednesdays. All are welcome!
The starting location for this Saturday's 9:00am ride is East Hanover Township Park, located behind the township building at 8848 Jonestown Road, Grantville, PA. 17028. Entrance to the park is located on Manada Gap Road. An unheated restroom is available at the park. We'll plan to ride from the park east on familiar roads around the Penn National/Hollywood Casino complex and take a mid-ride break at Memorial Lake. We'll then travel west on Rt443 to the Manada Gap area and head south to our starting point. Total distance will be about 18 miles and speed will be 9-10mph, depending on the group. No one gets dropped and we'll take breaks as necessary. If you have any questions or concerns, please call, 717-865-5707, or email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. Name: Blacks Bridge Road
Stats: 27 miles (1,265 ft.)
Speed: 11-13 mph
Start Location: East Hanover Community Park
At 9:00 AM on Saturday we’ll be starting at the East Hanover Township Park where restroom facilities are available.
We’ll head south for 5 miles towards the Swatara Creek. We’ll turn left and head east 8 miles past the eagles’ nest along the Swatara Creek. Then, we’ll turn left and head north 6 miles towards Route 443 via Blacks Bridge, Crooked and Harrison School Roads. We’ll turn left and head west 5 miles along Route 443 to Manada Gap Road. Then, we’ll turn left one last time and head south 3 miles back to the East Hanover Township Park forming a nice square on your mapping centered around Grantville…just check the math, compass directions and distances if you’re an engineering or math geek.
The ride has a nice mix of views of farmlands, creek bottoms and mountains. It has the very typical climb of 1,265 ft. for our area. It’s not too hilly and not too flat…Goldilocks for everyone. We have a scheduled break at mile 14 at the top of the Blacks Bridge Road Hill (Yea, that short but steep climb with a sharp left curve at the top that always looks easier than it is) followed by the refreshing ride down the backside of the hill to Swatara Creek. The ride will end with a good ride along Route 443 where you can stretch your legs out and bang it a bit if you’d like. Don’t worry, no one will be left behind and we’ll average 11-13 mph.
Restroom facilities will be readily available all along the farmlands, creek bottoms and mountains. For the shy bikers, they’ll also be available at the Manada Golf Course but, beware, that’ll be at mile 23.
The current weather forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high near 55 degrees and a NW wind of only 6-8 mph. That’s as good as it gets this Spring!
For directions, you can enter “East Hanover Community Park” in Google Maps and it'll get you there. It is located at the intersection of Jonestown Road and Manada Gap Road in East Hanover Township.
The D+ group will be starting at the same location and time for your flexibility in choosing between rides.
I'll cancel by 8:00 AM Saturday via email in the event of poor riding weather.
