Saturday Morning Social

Sat. 5 May, 2018 9:00 am
Ride Description:

The Saturday Morning Social will meet this week at the Palmyra Boro Municipal Center, 325 South Railroad St., Palmyra, PA 17078.  This is a Lebanon Valley Bicycle Club ride and one of our east shore favorites.  Plan to ride about 28 miles of rolling terrain at 11-12 mph as we weave in and out of the scenic farmlands of Dauphin and Lebanon Counties.  There is one significant hill at the half way point, but it isn’t too bad and we will regroup at the top before continuing. The second half of the ride is mostly flat. Ride with GPS indicates a total elevation gain of 1300 feet for this route.

There is a port-o-potty at the half way point in Colebrook. If necessary, we can refill our water bottles about halfway  where there is a coin operated spring with water costing .25 per gallon. I’m confident you will like this ride if you can tolerate a relatively slow 11-12 average mph pace.

In the event of rain, I will send an email cancellation notice no later than 8:00 o’clock Saturday morning. If the weather is questionable, check your emails, call or text me before you leave home. Hope to see you there!

Saturday Morning D+

Sat. 12 May, 2018 9:00 am
Ride Description:

We'll start this Saturday Morning's D Plus Ride at 9:00am from the Lower Road Lot at Memorial Lake State Park, 18 Boundary Road, Grantville, PA. 17028. Restrooms are available at the park. We'll be taking a route from the Lower Road Lot to East Hanover Township Park for a mid-ride break, then head back to the Lower Road. Our route will depend on the riders that show. If it's a group of more experienced riders, we'll take a slightly longer, harder route of approximately 21 miles, portions of which run south of Rt22. If the group has less experienced riders, we'll take a shorter approximate 17 mile route that travels north of Rt22. Speed will be between 9-11mph, depending on the group. No one gets dropped and we'll take as many breaks as necessary. Bring a helmet and water bottles. If you have any questions or concerns, please call, 717-865-5707, or email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Hope to see you Saturday morning. In the event of a weather related ride cancellation, notice will be sent out by 8:00am.

BTW, I think the Saturday Morning C and possibly a C+ ride will be starting from the same location, so check your emails or the club website for those ride details.

Saturday Morning Social

Sat. 12 May, 2018 9:00 am
Ride Description:

We will meet this week at Memorial Lake, Lower Road Entrance, where there should be a ride for almost everyone. In addition to our regular C Ride, there will be a shorter, slower D Plus and a faster C Plus Ride.

The regular C Ride will be a 30 mile loop from Memorial Lake to Fredericksburg and back with an average pace of about 12 mph. There are the usual hills of beautiful Lebanon County, but no killers. Ride with GPS shows a total elevation gain of 1700 feet. We will travel mostly rural country roads with the exception of a few miles of busier connecting roads.  We will take a break at the 11.5 mile mark at Matthew’s Public Library where restrooms are available.

In the event of rain, I will send a cancellation email no later than 8:00 Saturday morning. If the weather is questionable, check your emails, call or text me before you leave home.

Additionally, Rick Radwanski is leading a D Plus Ride and Paul Piergallini is leading a C Plus Ride. All three rides are starting from the same location and at the same  time. The planned routes of the C Plus Ride and the regular C ride are the same, just different speeds. Refer to the individual ride distribution emails or the HBC website for details of each ride.

Hope to see you there!

CANCELLED Saturday Morning Social

Sat. 19 May, 2018 9:00 am
Ride Description:

While this week’s weather is better suited for canoes than bikes, we’ll schedule a Saturday Social ride just in case we get a break in the deluge.

Our departure point will be the Lower Road parking lot at Memorial Lake.  Rick Radwanski will also be leading a D+ ride out of this location so you will have a choice of rides, both departing at 9:00 a.m.

The planned route for our C ride will have us paddling down Swatara Creek

The C ride will head west on back roads and then on Jonestown Rd.  Once we are warmed up we will hit our biggest hill at mile 8 as we climb up to the Rte 39 intersection.  We will take a rest room stop and snack break at mile 15 at Koons Park, then head back east on back roads.  The ride finishes with about 6 miles of gentle downhill grade on Rte 443 back into Memorial Lake.  Total distance will be just over 28 miles with an estimated climb of 1243 ft on Ride with GPS.

Our pace will be within the C range and no rider will be left behind.

In the event of cancellation I will send out a note by 8am Saturday morning.

Saturday Morning D+

Sat. 26 May, 2018 9:00 am
Ride Description:

We'll start Saturday morning's D Plus ride at 9:00am from East Hanover Township Park, located behind the Township building at 8848 Jonestown Road, Grantville, PA. 17028. Entrance to the park is located on Manada Gap Road. Restrooms are available at the park. Plan on riding from the park south across Rt22, then east into Lebanon county. We'll take a short break at Memorial Lake, then head back to East Hanover Park along some familiar rural roads. The route south of Rt22 involves a few rolling hills and one slightly longer hill, nothing we haven't climbed before. Total distance will be about 18 miles and speed will be 9-11mph, both depending on the group. No one gets dropped and we'll take breaks as necessary. If you have any questions or concerns, please call, 717-865-5707, or email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Hope to see you Saturday morning. In the event of inclement weather causing a ride cancellation, notification will be sent out by 8:00am.

Saturday Morning Social

Sat. 26 May, 2018 9:00 am
Ride Description:

Name:   TBD (Otherwise known as “To Be Determined”)

Stats:     28-30 Mi.

Speed:  11-13 mph

Start Location:  East Hanover Township Park

At 9:00 AM we’ll be starting at the East Hanover Township Park where restroom facilities are available.  We’ll generally bike in a large loop to the east of our starting location.  I would expect that we’ll be climbing in the range of 1,200-1,400 ft.  We’ll make 1 scheduled stop with additional stops as appropriate.

The current weather forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high near 87 degrees and a 30% chance of a shower or thunderstorm.  This should be some of the better weather for the Memorial Day 3-day weekend.

The East Hanover Township Park is located at the intersection of Jonestown Road and Manada Gap Road.

The D+ group will be starting at the same location and time so you can easily choose between the 2 rides.

I'll cancel by 8:00 AM Saturday via email in the event of poor riding weather.
