Ride Description: Harrisburg Bicycle Club offers riding/dining options during the summer riding season. Each Friday a different leader will lead us on a ride from a different location in our riding area of central Pennsylvania. Rides start at 6:15 PM. These rides are short, 15 - 20 miles at a slow "C" pace 11-13 mph. no one gets dropped. After the ride we dine at an establishment reserved by the leader. Sometimes it is at the home of the leader. These are fun social rides. You should give it a try. Each week a notice reminder will be sent out via email describing the upcoming Friday ride. Terrain: Rolling Terrain and Challenging Hills
Ride Description: The ride will include the rolling terrain and challenging hills of eastern Dauphin and western Lebanon counties. There will be infrequent stops and any that are necessary. Riders should be capable of sustained effort for two to three hours or more.

We will meet at the East Hanover Park in Shellsville and be ready to go at 8:00 a.m.  We will ride through the Monroe Valley. known for its golf course, from there the ride will proceed to Jonestown before the return ride going West.  There will be one tree-canopied hill leaving the Monroe Valley that is long, but not steep.  This ride will run 40 to 43 miles.  As it will be hot and humid, we will be leaving at 8 a.m.  An early stop at Funck's will be made and then a mid-ride stop will occur on Camp Strauss Road just over the top of the hill in the shade.  Good tires, plenty of liquid and a mid ride snack are recommended.  Due to the heat, the ride average should be around 14 mph or so.

East Hanover Park is directly behind the Township Building that faces Jonestown Road.  The Dauphin County, East Hanover Township Building is at 8848 Jonestown Road, Grantville PA.  The park has a large parking lot and there are clean and spacious bathroom facilities.

Directions from-81.  Take the Rt 39/Hershey/Manada Hill exit.  Go south to the traffic light on Jonestown Road.  Go left.  At about two miles, make a left on Manada Gap Road.  The entrance to the park is on the left.

Directions from Hershey.  Take route 39 North. After crossing Route 22, go about one mile and make a right at the light on Jonestown Road.  At about two miles, make a left on Manada Gap Road.  The entrance to the park is on the left.

 

Running a little late or need help getting to the park.  Call Robert, 717 712-9988.  If the ride is cancelled due to weather, it will be cancelled by 7 a.m. if not before.

At 8:30 AM we’ll be starting at the East Hanover Township Community Park located at the intersection of Jonestown Road and Manada Gap Road.  
 
Note this change  The C+ ride will be starting at the same location but departing at 8:00  Rob is planning  40-43 at 14+
 
We’ll head east past Harpers Tavern into Ono.  From there, we’ll bike to Memorial Lake for our scheduled break around mile 17.  After passing through the farmlands of Dauphin and Lebanon County, we’ll head back to East Hanover Township on Route 443 along the foot of the mountain.
 
Restroom facilities are available at the start/finish and at Memorial Lake.
 
I'll cancel by 7:00 AM Saturday via email in the event of poor riding weather.

Social - - For the beginning cyclist who wants distance with an easy pace. Generally flat terrain and low traffic roads as much as possible. Average speed 9-11 mph, distances vary. Frequent stops. No rider is dropped

Terrain: Flat to Rolling
Ride Description: These social rides are D Plus (9-11mph) and typically approximately 15-20 miles in distance. Rides usually leave from the Grantville area, though other east shore start locations are occasionally used. These rides are available for riders who don't want fast speeds or long distances. Breaks are frequent and no one gets left behind.

The starting location for this Saturday's 8:30am ride is East Hanover Township Park, located behind the township building at 8848 Jonestown Road, Grantville, PA. 17028. Entrance to the park is located on Manada Gap Road. Restrooms are available at the park. We'll plan to ride from the park east on familiar roads around the Penn National/Hollywood Casino complex. We'll then travel west on Rt443 to the Manada Gap area hoping to find a couple new roads before returning to our starting point. Total distance will be about 18-20 miles and speed will be 9-11mph,No one gets dropped and we'll take breaks as necessary.
