Another leisurely hike!!!!
Meet at 9 AM at Stony Ridge Park, 50 Bernheisel Bridge Rd, Carlisle, PA 17015, concession stand (our favorite bike riding rest stop) for another leisurely hike on the Appalachian Trail through the Cumberland Valley.
Because parking is limited at both the planned start and ending point, we want to limit cars in these spots.
Approximately 4 ½ miles. Terrain is flat with only minor elevation change.
Car shuttle up to the Trindle Rd Appalachian Trailhead, where we started last week. We will then head north on the Appalachian Trail, passing by ancient cemeteries and “swampy” boardwalks. Many familiar road crossings as we descend down to the Conodoguinet Creek and the Scott Farm.
Expect to be walking on some snow and mud. Dress warm and some orange is urged. It is illegal to hunt within 200 feet of the Trail, but with all the private property in that area….you never know.
And bring your favorite Halloween horror story to share as we take a short break at the Chambers Farm Cemetery, where graves date back to the 1800;s.
