We had a great HBC Three Creek Century this year. There were 637 registrants and that is the most we’ve had since we moved to the Penn Township Fire Department facility in 2015. We were initially concerned that Hurricane Florence would move in and we’d have to cancel the Century. However, Florence wasn’t a problem and actually helped boost our attendance because some other biking events closer to her path were cancelled and their riders came our way instead. We had participants from Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, Virginia, Washington DC, and West Virginia. Pennsylvania riders came from both near and far, including Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Most came from the Harrisburg area and throughout Central Pennsylvania.
We have received wonderful reviews from the people who rode the Century this year, and they remarked on the terrific food, helpful volunteers, and beautiful, well marked routes.
Our many HBC Volunteers deserve all the credit for a job well done as the Century could not have been successful without them. They pitched in wherever needed, sometimes spending the whole day shifting from job to job.
I especially want to thank the 2018 Century Committee Coordinators who did an outstanding job of pulling everything together.:
Rebecca Bausinger- Co-chair
Howard Ross – Volunteers
Dick Norford – Parking
Terry Drachbar – Routes
Donna Finn – Registration
Dean Giger – Sag
Ed Reynolds- Rest Stops
Diana Bermingham – Cookies
Dave and Lois Young- Food
Steve Holland- Photographer
Ken Frohnert – Jack of all trades
Howard Davison- HBC OPS Committee Liaison
Tim Clawser – PR Assistant
We also thank the following for their contributions to the Century:
Donegal Insurance Group
Recycle Bicycle, the Pedal Pusher and Cole’s Bicycles for providing the repair stations.
As of now, the finances haven’t been settled yet but I’ll report that when it’s available. We expect it to be a record-breaking year for proceeds thanks to Donegal Insurance Group, the sponsor, and to the large number of registrants.
Save the date for the next Century: September 15, 2019
