East Shore Flex Ride. 26.5miles @ 10.5 mph

Albert T Brulo (L), Lori Brulo, Marilyn Chastek, Karen Wagner, Jim Kearns

Ride Name:          Conewago Trail

Start Location:      Old Getty Mart

Climb:                   465 ft.

Weather At Start:  41 degrees, mostly cloudy, calm

It’s been a while since we’ve done an entire ride on a cinder trail.  So, we all broke out our hybrid bikes with 28 mm tires or bigger and tackled the trail.  Karen was the only one with a true road bike but her tires were at least 28 mm allowing her to navigate the trail as well as the hybrid bikes.

We did the gradual climb to Mt. Gretna and beyond.  We turned around at mile 13.25 instead of the full 14 miles as advertised because those last 0.75 miles would have been over the crest and downhill.  That’s the beauty of a flex ride!

We took our scheduled break at the halfway turnaround where Jim, the biking electrical engineering professor, tried to convince us of the need for imaginary numbers but, when it was all said and done, I never understood them in college and I still don’t understand them now.  Nice try, Jim, they’re not even real unlike 28mm tires!  On the way back, we cooled down going downhill and picked up a bit of a chill which quickly faded after we passed Colebrook.

No problems, no issues…just the way we like it.
