David H. LeRoy, age 83,resident of Shermans Dale, PA, passed away unexpectedly on June 22.David was born May 2, 1940, in Cortland, the son of Harold J. and Evelyn Ellis LeRoy.He graduated from Cortland High School in 1958 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Clarkson University and his master’s degree from Cornell University.  David moved to the greater Harrisburg area in 1963.He was married to the mother of his three children, Nancy Phillips.He later married his current wife of 21-years, Nancy Kauhl on April 2, 2002.David was employed by Modjeski & Masters as a structural engineer for 39 years, retiring in 2002.

 

David loved being outdoors—he was a member of the Kick ‘n Gliders Nordic Ski Club and the Harrisburg Bicycle Club.  He enjoyed skiing, cycling, canoeing, and hiking, earning the achievement of being an Adirondack 46er.David enjoyed learning about the history of old roads and infrastructure, railways, canals, and various transportation.  He wrote a book documenting old milestones along 200-year-old highways.

 

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Kauhl of Shermans Dale, PA; three children, Karen (Tom) Criste of Harbor Springs, MI; Kathy (Don) Miller of Johnstown, PA; and Peter LeRoy of Bend, OR; four grandchildren, Leo and Andrew Criste and Alex and Abigail Orzechowski; his brother, Paul LeRoy of Liverpool, NY; and four nieces and nephews.
