What is this?
If you can't make Gary Brinton's ride in the morning, consider joining us for an evening "sleepy potato" ride Monday. Departure will be at 5:30 PM from the Fishing Creek Community Center, located at 1361 Fishing Creek Valley Rd, Harrisburg 17112. This location is on the south side of Fishing Creek Valley Rd, between Frog Hollow Rd and the entry for Boyd's Big Tree preserve. There is a porta-potty at this location.
Our route will go east on Fishing Creek Valley Rd, with a climb up Sleepy Hollow Rd and a descent on Appleby Rd. We'll loop around the Manada Bottom Rd area, then on the return we'll tackle Potato Valley Rd. Total distance will be 25 to 26 miles, and elevation will be around 1300 ft.
It's tough to predict an average speed for this ride but I'd guess 12 to 14 mph. Regardless, we will take care of each other and leave no rider behind. If you've done this route before, you know that the climbs up Sleepy Hollow and Potato Valley are challenging, but doable for a C rider. If you've not done a C ride before, this isn't the route to start with.
The weather prediction is for a beautiful evening. If you have questions about the ride or route, contact Ride Leader Chris Wright at cjwright1919@gmail.com
