The weekend weather forecast is for our early Indian Summer to continue. Let’s take advantage of the warmth and do something different.
Meet at 10 AM at the PA Turnpike Exit 161 (Breezewood Exit) Gateway Plaza (on the left-hand side of the plaza) for a ride through the abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike Tunnels. The tunnels should have been recently swept and cleaned up for last weekend's End of the Road Half Marathon. Let's utilize all that clean up work that went on.
20 miles, starting at the Breezewood Gateway Plaza, cycle up US 30 East to the Sideling Hill State Forest Picnic Area (about 4 miles) before descending down the east side of Sideling Hill. Finish the ride by cycling through the mountain tunnels back to Breezewood. Easy riding after the first 4 miles.

Notes –
· Working headlight attached to handlebars mandatory (recommendation is to also bring a spare working headlight). The tunnels are DARK (longest tunnel is almost 1.5 miles)!
· Roadway is rough, unmaintained, and bumpy. It will be strewn with litter and graffiti. Inside the tunnel will be wet and possible puddles to ride through
· Bring water, food, and a spare tube.
