Bike Ride on the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail (CVRT) - Newville to Shippensburg and Back

Distance: 22 miles
Speed 8–11 mph – Learning to Linger – D pace
The trail surface is fairly level (flat), well maintained, smooth crushed gravel, with paved road intersections. The trail goes to the southeast side of the Shippensburg University campus and connects to Earl Street on the south side of campus. The trail has been extended about two miles north of Newville. Those interested can ride an additional four miles at the end of the ride by riding the new section north.
Directions to the Newville trail head parking lot, which has restrooms:
From Harrisburg take Interstate 81 south to exit 37, Newville. Turn right at the bottom of the exit ramp on to route 233 north. Drive straight ahead for 3.8 miles. Turn left at the CVRT sign on to route 533 west, which is Vine Street. Continue 0.6 miles to the next CVRT sign which will be at the intersection of Rich Street. Turn left on Rich Street. The parking lot is about four blocks ahead at the intersection of Rich Street and McFarland Street. For GPS users, the address is: 23 McFarland Street, Newville, PA 17241.
Helmets are required on Harrisburg Bicycle Club (HBC) rides. In-the-ear listening devices are not allowed on HBC rides. This is an out-and -back ride.
Bring water and a snack. We will take a break at the Shippensburg Township Park Pavilion (restrooms available).
Please arrive at 12:45 PM and be ready to ride at 1:00 PM.
