Sunday, June 2, 2024 - Rain or Shine Tour de Belt is an exciting way to get to know the Greenbelt! The 2024 ride will start at Harrisburg Area Community College-Harrisburg Campus (HACC). Riders will follow the 20-mile original loop and return to HACC, where we will host the Finish Line Fest, showcasing our sponsors, community organizations, and local food trucks. Your participation and contribution will help maintain and improve the Capital Area Greenbelt, which loops through Harrisburg and surrounding municipalities. The group ride is on Sunday, June 2, rain or shine. As always, the group ride is fully supported with volunteer guides, ride marshals and traffic monitors at crossings. A sag wagon is on standby to help you, if needed. Parking and event is in HACC’s West parking lot.

The First Sunday of every month throughout the year, ride the Capital Area Greenbelt around Harrisburg. This is a great way to learn the route with a group of friendly riders. The loop is 18 miles of trail (some on road, some off road) mostly paved with many stops at crossroads. The ride leaves at 1:00 pm from the trailhead in Paxtang off Derry St (behind the City Line Diner, 3302 Derry St, Hbg 17111). If the spur routes are added to the loop (riders vote to add or not) the total mileage increases to 23-24 miles. The pace of the ride is average 10 mph (D+). We ride faster on flats and slower on hills. The terrain has a few hills. We ride the loop in a counter-clockwise direction. No rider left behind. Sign up for email notification due to the date change every month and to get cancellations due to weather or other possible reasons. Helmets are required. Be sure to pump your tires and know how to shift your gears before you come since there is a hill in the beginning of the ride.

This will be a gravel ride, that may be as much pavement as Gravel. We will head up Asher Minor Road onto a side road and run the unpaved Tomstown Road then descend to Swatara Park and run the Swatara Trail. From there we will run another path within the Park before exiting to paved roads again and a return to Memorial Lake. Look for 30 to 35 miles distance. Easy pace as the leader is a beginner on gravel. Don‘t think that it will all be slow riding, as we will push it some on the trail and the return. I wouldn‘t do this in a skinny tired road bike. Optionally, those interested can gather at the nearby Snitz Creek Brewery location in Fort Indiantown Gap.
